The Swiss CV uses exclusively A4 format (210 x 297 mm). The US Letter format (215.9 x 279.4 mm) is not accepted. Ideal length is 1 to 2 pages: 1 page for junior profiles (under 5 years of experience), 2 pages for senior professionals. Beyond 2 pages, Swiss recruiters will consider that the candidate cannot summarise effectively. Margins should be 2 to 2.5 cm on all four sides. Section order in a Swiss CV

• Personal information (name, address, phone, email, nationality, work permit, photo)
• Professional profile or objective (3-4 lines summarising your background and strengths)
• Work experience (reverse chronological order, most recent first)
• Education (degrees, certifications, reverse chronological)
• Technical and IT skills
• Languages (with CEFR level: A1 to C2)
• Interests (optional but valued in Switzerland)
• References (available upon request, or names and contact details)

Reverse chronological order: the Swiss standard

In Switzerland, reverse chronological order is the standard format expected by recruiters. Your most recent experience appears first, followed by earlier positions. This applies to both work experience and education. Each entry should include: job title, company name, city and canton (or country if abroad), dates in DD.MM.YYYY format (e.g. 01.03.2022 - 31.12.2025), and 3 to 5 concrete, quantified achievements. Avoid the functional (skills-based) format, which is not well regarded in Switzerland as recruiters want to see your career progression. How the Swiss CV differs from neighbouring countries

The Swiss CV differs from French, German or Italian CVs in several ways. Unlike France, the Swiss CV systematically mentions nationality and work permit. Unlike Germany, the Swiss CV is generally shorter (2 pages max versus 3 in Germany) and does not include a cover sheet (Deckblatt). Unlike Italy, salary expectations never appear on a Swiss CV. The work permit (B, C, G, L) is essential information that Swiss recruiters look for immediately.
